Tidworth Town Football Club attended the Tidworth Community Area Awards tonight and we are pleased to say that we came away with 3 awards for the Club and its volunteers.
We were awarded the runner up and winners prize in the Wiltshire Constabulary/Paul Oatway Shield with the following speeches being given:-
Gareth Sproston
Gareth has been a member of Tidworth Town Football Club since 2009 when he started managing the clubs Hurricanes. He has voluntarily given up his time to take the teams mid week training sessions and the Saturday morning league football, regardless of whether these matchers are drawn home or away. He has also been most diligent in ensuring that his own coaching qualifications are appropriate and current. In 2014 he moved to managing the Challengers who are enjoying the benefit of his experienced coaching skills. Whilst with the club, Gareth has organised mini World Cup events, a Christmas party and helped maintain the pitches.
Tanya Reid
For the last three years Mrs Tanya Reid has worked tirelessly behind the scenes at the Tidworth Town Football Club to ensure that all the young players drawn from across our community area can enjoy their chosen sport. Her role is wide from registering the players to liaising with various Football Associations, Aspire Defence and the local council in its position as landlord. She has been instrumental in ensuring that the club maintain its Charter Standard with the Wiltshire FA for several years running - and this is no mean feat. She balances her contribution with that of her own business and looking after her family. As a direct result of her selfless commitment to the club, it now finds itself in the wonderful position of having over 130 children playing football twice a week with the majority of these participating in matches most weekends. She is quite simply awesome!
and Runners Up in the Garrison Commanders Award with the following speech:-
Tidworth Town Football Club
Tidworth Town FC is possibly the largest volunteer run organisation within the Garrison town of Tidworth. With a playing membership of over 130 children aged between 4 and 17 years old drawn from both the military and civilian communities, it reaches out to more people than it could ever have initially hoped and it also has an adult team. With its team of 20 adult volunteers responsible for the Clubs management, daily support activities and the twice weekly coaching sessions, there is plenty to do. What really makes this club tick is driven by the wide diversity of its volunteers who share the same vision; simply to help and develop footballing skills, teamwork, physical fitness, respect for one another and encouraging a sense of pride in their community. The strong relationship that now exists between the military and civilian elements of our community is testament to the success of the club's vision and suggests that it will, if not already become the largest voluntary run organisation in Tidworth.
This award is for all the volunteers we have at the club - thank you so very much for all the time and the great efforts you put into making the club what it is today.
